ANOTHER AMAZING MOTHER-DAUGHTER EVENT…
Hi everyone! It’s been a long, long time since I’ve written on my blog but after yesterday’s fantastic and uplifting event, I MUST write and… I’m “back!”
I definitely took the summer off to be with my family and disconnect a bit. But yesterday’s Mother-Daughter event – Strengthening your Connection and Deepening Your Understanding of One Another – definitely reminded me of why I wrote my book and what my purpose is: to connect with teen girls everywhere (and in this case, with their mother’s too) and help them discover their inner voice and the true gift that they really are. What can I say? Over 70 women gathered – women of all ages – to discover, share and deepen their understanding of one another. There were moms, aunts, grandmothers, special friends and teens and pre-teens coming together expressing a great need to connect. Early on in my talk I expressed what my goal was – to leave having a greater appreciation for who we are and also for the person we came with. I invited all to join-in in this goal and I think that by the end of the afternoon, we all felt great, inspired, knowing that we had connected with one another. What I basically heard yesterday over and over again is how life gets busy for all of us and we don’t take the time to stop and simply talk, share and learn. But we took the time – we made the time… The women were surprised by what the teen audience expressed and I know the teen audience was also empowered by what they heard.
I know this all sounds a bit corny but the truth is that it’s obvious what we need: girls have a deep need to connect with their moms (or their caretakers) and moms share in this need as well. Matters of the Heart: A guide to living and loving your teen years is a great tool to help meet this need. Now that the school year is underway, I will be traveling to different communities and schools to meet with teen girls and sometimes even with their moms/caretakers. Like I said, I’m “back” and I’m very clear as to what I need to do…
